FAQ

Feel free to message us if you can't find the answers here!

  1. What are the meeting days and locations for the co-op groups?

    1. Our Anderson Group starts every Monday at 10 am, starting in September. Sessions typically finish at noon, but we sometimes go to a park afterward from 12-1, depending on participation and weather.

    2. Our Oconee Group meets Thursdays starting in September. Classes are from 10 am - 12 pm. We sometimes eat lunch and play in the classroom or the yard behind our building after classes commence.

  2. Are there any fees associated with participation in the co-op?

    1. You will never be asked to pay for a co-op day. To foster inclusivity and accessibility, we use cost-free venues such as libraries, local parks, and community-driven spaces. This allows us to keep classes as inexpensive and fee-free as possible However, there is a list of suggested materials which are very affordable. Additionally, occasional contributions towards supplementary materials or snacks during the academic year and individual field trip expenses may be requested.

  3. What educational curriculum does the co-op follow?

    1. We adopt a versatile approach to curriculum design, integrating diverse resources and curriculums into our lessons. For instance, our "Around the World" class incorporated materials from sources such as Blossom and Root, Passports to Adventures, YouTube videos, Teachers Pay Teachers content, and other materials.

  4. What is the structure of a typical meet day?

    1. While we meet at 10 am, we don't start class till around 10:15. This allows all families to arrive and settle. We start our day with a game, followed by a lesson emphasizing hands-on learning and minimizing written work. We normally do one writing activity in the form of a journal. Finally, we occasionally meet at a park or play together in our classroom during lunch.

  5. Is the co-op a drop-off program?

    1. No. The co-op does not permit drop-off arrangements. Our teachers are all volunteers and parents, generously contributing their time and expertise, and are not paid. As such, we respectfully require parents or guardians to remain present with their children throughout the session.

  6. What are the expected commitments from parents within the co-op?

    1. We kindly request active parental participation in various capacities. Fundamental responsibilities include ensuring general discipline and offering guidance to their children as needed. Moreover, parents may occasionally be asked to teach or lead a class. By doing these things, we can continue providing a tuition-free educational experience to families within the upstate.

  7. What resources are available in the curriculum library?

    1. Our curriculum library serves as a valuable resource for co-op families. Free-to-keep materials include magazines, select early readers, gently used workbooks, and small art projects. Furthermore, we offer free-to-check-out materials, which include curriculums, unit study sets, fiction and nonfiction books, and additional early readers.

  8. Is there any fee associated with utilizing the curriculum library?

    1. Participation in the curriculum library remains free for our co-op families. In contrast, for external families, we maintain a reciprocal system. Contributions of a few books throughout the year allow access to the library's materials without incurring any charges. This symbiotic "give a book, get a book" practice extends to the free-to-keep materials for non-co-op families as well.
